Magnetic reconnection
Magnetic reconnection is a flow-coupled diffusion process in which cross-field current (j⊥)-based free magnetic energy is efficiently converted into thermal and kinetic energy. It is associated with the electric field that satisfies ∇×E ≠ 0 and E • j⊥ > 0. The former condition indicates that magnetic field is time-varying, while the latter j⊥-based magnetic energy is reduced.
